The RIB from the dark side
13th May 2008
A fast, new eco-friendly RIB with an intriguing past is being launched by Eco-Marine this month. Derived from the XR24 that triumphed in the Round Scotland Race and other gruelling long distance events in the 1990s, the Eco XR24 gets back to basics – excellent performance, good looks with superb fuel economy.
The 7.2m RIB borrows its light-weight structure from parent company Coupland Bell’s amphibious RIB – developed for aid and rescue. The distinctive hard bow remains, but the new design has many improvements to meet, and exceed, current regulations.
Every Eco XR24 will be unique, with its layout built to its owner’s requirements, including a choice of outboard engines, up to 250hp.
Director Mark Evans says: “The XR24 earned an awesome reputation for cloak and dagger operations. Let’s just say: the boats were often black and fast enough not to get caught. With its striking lines and low fuel consumption, the Eco XR24 is designed to appeal to anyone looking for performance coupled with style – but with an eye on the environment too. And the boat’s dark past adds a little spice.”
